Long story, short — my husband and I married young and bought a starter home. Post moving in, we found problems that weren’t caught in the inspection, and we’ve been doing some DIY renos as a consequence. Fast forward 2 years after tackling some small jobs— sanding, painting, extended deck, refurbished furniture— we found a leak in the shower. A big one. A crack in the tile that manifested bugs and mold and completely rotted out the subfloor (i.e. basement ceiling) leaving water in the basement after every time we showered.
So, we resorted to YouTube videos and fixed it ourselves.
Now there’s some things to learn about DIY projects... There’s what we think of as the “cheap route”: sourcing 15+ YouTube videos, buying all the tools and supplies you need, taking the rest of your PTO to finish the job finally one month after starting it, assuming gimmicks at the hardware store will help because they’re recommended for beginners, replacing the gimmicks with the real shit after fucking it up the first time, not to mention trekking a bag to the gym to shower for 5 weeks leaving NO excuse to not workout. And then, there’s what ends up being the less expensive route: PAYING SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU. There is GREAT value in other people’s strengths, and paying someone local to help you with something they excel at is something that everyone must humble to sooner or later. For us, it was later than I care to admit…
And so I’m sharing with you — my half complete bathroom makeover. Enjoy!
